Graduands Urged to Embrace Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology Francis Folley has challenged newly graduated Malawi College of Accountancy (MCA) students to embrace entrepreneurship and innovation, urging them not to limit themselves to seeking employment but also to create opportunities for themselves and others.

Folley made the remarks on Saturday during the MCA 11th Congregation held in Lilongwe under the theme, “Delivering Transformative Education for a Self-Reliant Nation."

He said the world of work is changing rapidly, driven by technology, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and globalisation, and urged the graduates to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired to identify challenges and develop solutions.

Folley further urged the graduates to regard their qualifications as instruments for service, innovation, leadership, and positive impact, saying they should distinguish themselves wherever they go through competence, hard work, integrity, and professionalism.

“Ensure that you are people who can be trusted. Be professionals who keep learning, be leaders who create opportunities for others, and be citizens who understand that success is most meaningful when it contributes to the well-being of others and to the development of the nation,” he said.

In his remarks, MCA Chairperson of the Board of Governors Daniel Dunga urged the graduates to embrace a transformative mindset and always put the interests of the nation at the centre of their endeavours.

“You must have national interest in all you do. You must look for what you can do to make others better, to make your nation better. Success should not only be measured by your payslip. It must be defined by what you are doing for the greater good,” Dunga said.

He also challenged the graduands to develop a habit of regularly reflecting on their achievements and contributions, saying self-accountability would enable them to identify areas for improvement and make a greater contribution to the nation.

About 713 students graduated from various programmes, including the Bachelor of Applied Accounting, Auditing and Information Systems, Bachelor of Business Management and Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Management Information Systems, Bachelor of Banking and Financial Services Management, Bachelor of Marketing and Public Relations, and Master of Business Administration. ?>
