Finance for Non Financial Managers


Course Description

The Finance for Non-Financial Manager's course empowers managers to more effectively communicate with accounting and finance people and to better understand the financial aspects of business decisions.

Key focus areas

Financial ratio analysis, What constitutes Balance Sheets, income statements and cash flow statements as well as the importance of notes and accounting policies, Key performance measures, Cost considerations, The concept of contribution and marginal costing, Budgeting and corporate financial planning, Working capital management, Discounted cash-flow and capital costs, Principles of valuation and value creation etc.

Outcomes of the programme

Participants will improve their understanding of the financial ramifications of their decisions - whether these relate to: an impact on the income statement, balance sheet or cash flow statement; budgeting more effectively; understanding what causes and drives costs; revealing key ratios and performance measures; or comprehending the principles of value creation from an economic perspective.

Who should attend?

This programme is designed to provide managers in non-financial positions with a practical understanding of finance and accounting. No previous experience in finance and accounting is required.

Planning, budgeting and control for projects

Target group

The course is designed for personnel who plan and manage projects in the NGOs, private and public sectors. The group includes: programme managers, project accountants, monitoring and evaluation officers.

The following are the main areas of focus: Project planning in general, Project planning tools CPA and Gantt charts, Budgeting Implementation issues, Monitoring and evaluation, Project planning software.

Computerised Bookkeeping and Cashiering

Target group

Persons preparing books of accounts and cashiers as employees, and for own business

Course Description

Writing daybooks & ledgers; The trial balance & Control accounts; Preparing the balance sheet and the profit and loss account; Internal controls; receipting and paying; Managing petty cash float; Creating spreadsheets for cash / bank reconciliation and reporting; Sage accounting.

Advanced Internal Audit Practice


Course Objective

To equip internal audit staff, accounts personnel, Managers and Section Heads with internal audit skills that will add value to their respective organisations.

Course Outcome

At the end of the course participants should be able to design, implement, evaluate and report on an internal audit assignment.

Course Outline

The course includes Internal Audit Functions, Internal Audit and Risk Management, Internal Audit Investigative Skills, Fraud and Corruption Prevention Techniques and Internal Audit Practice Management.

Procurement & Stores Management


Target group

The course is designed for those who are responsible for procurement (local and overseas), storage and handling stocks

Purpose

A comprehensive understanding of the pre-requisites of managing stores functions in an efficient and effective manner.

Outline

The following areas will be covered: Outline of stores functions, Assessment of user needs and design of reports, Setting up stock categories, Inventory control and the economics of stock management, Perpetual inventory system and the computer, Stock valuation and sock taking, Information systems and transaction processing.
